Every season, farmers lose money on surplus crops because there's no easy way to move extra inventory quickly. By the time you find a buyer, it's too late. Meanwhile, restaurants and suppliers are paying premium prices for ingredients that aren't half as fresh as yours.
Got a bumper tomato crop? Extra squash? More eggs than your regulars can handle? Post it in seconds and reach buyers immediately — before it goes to waste.
Chefs love farm-fresh ingredients. Connect directly with local restaurants who want quality produce and are willing to pay fair prices for it. Cut out the middleman, keep more profit.
Don't have time for individual restaurant deliveries? No problem. Local suppliers are always looking for quality local produce to add to their inventory. One sale, one delivery, done.
You grew it, you price it. No more accepting whatever the wholesaler offers. List your products at fair prices and let the market come to you.
Let buyers know what's coming. Post seasonal availability so restaurants and suppliers can plan their menus and orders around your harvest schedule.
Message buyers directly. Answer questions about your growing practices. Build loyal customers who come back season after season because they trust your quality.
Create a farm profile that showcases who you are. Buyers increasingly want to know where their food comes from — let them discover you.
No listing fees. No commissions. You keep every dollar you earn.
Turn potential waste into revenue. Your produce deserves better than rotting in the field.
Start Selling Your Harvest →FoodieShop wasn't born in a startup incubator or a Silicon Valley garage. It was born in a deli on Long Island — somewhere between the cold cuts and the coffee station.
In 1989, my father opened Melville Deli. I basically grew up behind the counter — making sandwiches before I could do long division, learning to slice turkey before I learned to drive. The deli wasn't just a business; it was where I learned how businesses actually work. The good parts and the incredibly frustrating parts.
If you've never run a food business, let me paint you a picture: It's 6 AM. You need chicken, lettuce, tomatoes, bread, mayo, and about 47 other things. So you call Supplier A. They don't answer. You call Supplier B. Their chicken is $0.30/lb more than last week (or is it? Who remembers?). Supplier C has great prices but their delivery driver is... unreliable. Meanwhile, customers are walking in, the phone is ringing, and you're scribbling prices on the back of a napkin.
Now multiply that by every single day for 35 years.
Eventually, we got so fed up with the supplier chaos that we made a bold decision: we stopped ordering from suppliers entirely. Instead, we hired a guy — let's call him Dave — whose entire job was to drive to Restaurant Depot every single day and buy everything we needed.
Every. Single. Day.
Was this efficient? Absolutely not. We were paying Dave's salary, plus gas, plus the markup at Restaurant Depot, plus the time cost of figuring out what we needed every morning. But here's the thing about bad systems: once you're in them, they become comfortable. "At least we know what we're getting," we'd say. "At least there's no surprises."
The surprises were in our profit margins. We just weren't looking.
Here's what really drove me crazy: we had no idea what good prices looked like.
Sure, chicken and eggs — everybody knows those prices. They're practically a universal currency in the food business. But what about sesame oil? Panko breadcrumbs? That one specific brand of hot sauce your customers love?
When suppliers came in with their price sheets, we'd nod politely and file them in what I'll generously call our "filing system" (a drawer that hadn't been organized since the Clinton administration). Were their prices good? Bad? Competitive? We had no way to know.
We didn't know what we were paying for most products. We didn't know what we used to pay. We couldn't tell if prices were trending up or down. When egg prices spiked 40% overnight during that avian flu scare, we found out the same way everyone else did — by getting punched in the face at checkout.
There was no analytics. No history. No visibility. Just vibes and prayers.
One day, I was comparing prices on Amazon for something completely unrelated — probably a phone charger — and it hit me: Why can I compare prices on a $15 phone charger across 50 sellers in 3 seconds, but I can't do the same for the $500 worth of chicken I buy every week?
Why is there no "Amazon for restaurant supplies" where I can just see what things cost?
So I built one.
FoodieShop is the tool I wish existed when I was running to Restaurant Depot every day. It's the answer to every time I stared at a price sheet and thought "is this good?" It's price transparency for an industry that's been operating on guesswork and relationships for decades.
I'm not trying to eliminate relationships — good suppliers are worth their weight in gold. But I am trying to eliminate the guesswork. You should know if you're getting a fair deal. You should be able to see your purchase history. You should be able to tell if egg prices are about to drop (so you can hold off) or spike (so you can stock up).
And it's free for restaurants because I've been the restaurant. I know what the margins are like. I know you don't need another subscription eating into your profits.
I'm not a tech bro who watched a documentary about food waste and got inspired. I'm a guy who spent 30+ years making sandwiches, managing inventory (badly), and wondering why running a food business had to be this hard.
FoodieShop is my answer. I hope it helps you as much as I wish it had helped me.

Still making sandwiches at Melville Deli. Still terrible at inventory. Getting better at software.
